Basement Waterproofing

Waterproofing is a term used to refer to any repair that helps stop water from leaking into the basement.

At Nebraska Basements, we deal with a wide range of affordable basement waterproofing solutions tailored to fit your home.

There are different options you can consider when deciding which type of basement waterproofing to choose, but your home improvement goals and the scale of the damage will play a major part.

Generally, at Nebraska Basements, we deal with two main options, namely:

Interior Waterproofing

This is a technique where your basement is waterproofed from the inside. The water is initially allowed to trickle inside and then is managed away forcibly by our experienced technicians. However, this technique usually needs concrete breakout, and it includes sump pumps though it often takes a very short term to install.

This method is sometimes called internal waterproofing and is often considered the ideal solution for a wet basement. Suppose you have a wet and moist basement. In that case, we recommend using this method as it is best for preventing the growth of mildew and mold, which will produce some unpleasant odor and create bacteria that will affect your family's health.

We usually recommend this method if:

  • The basement can only be fixed outside with access or small spaces.

  • The Internal System is a more affordable option for unfinished living spaces.

  • The water issue is not a basement foundation leak but rather a hydrostatic pressure issue, meaning that the groundwater beneath the concrete floor rises up and down, causing water to leak through the basement concrete slab or at the juncture where the floor meets the wall. The groundwater can also be caused by an underground creek where the home was built.

Exterior Waterproofing

Unlike the interior waterproofing method, the exterior is a method of basement waterproofing that starts from the outside. It is meant to help halt water from entering your basement. It is a method that involves some digging up of your basement wall and includes an external moisture barrier.

Exterior waterproofing is a perfect method for a finished basement that is rarely used since most of the work is performed outside. Also, because the work is done outside, there is very little disturbance to your interior basement.

The problem with wet basements is usually outside the house; therefore, this is usually the first place we will check. Exterior waterproofing tends to involve a lot of work compared to internal waterproofing, and thus it is important to consult professional technicians to do the job. The excavation of the area surrounding the basement's foundation means this is a labor-intensive process that requires heavy tools and equipment.
